Salutation: Dear Prime Minister or Hon'ble Prime Minister.
Bangladesh: Nandita Saha murdered within two and a half months of her marriage.
Bring the killer(s) of Nandita Saha to justice.
Human Rights Congress for Bangladesh Minorities (HRCBM) is gravely concerned at the unnatural death of Nandita Saha, at 39 Nabapushpa Abashik Alaka, Jatorpur, Sylhet, who is believed to be murdered within 2 ½ months of her marriage.
The incident took place at 39 Nabapushpa Abashik Alaka, Jatorpur, Sylhet and it happened between Aug 23rd 11 PM and Aug 24th 7 AM 2006. Nandita talked to her brother and Mother in Dhaka at about 11 PM on Aug 23rd over the phone. She never realized that would be her last. Next morning Nandita was dead. Nandita was in good heath. So, what caused her death in the span of 8 hours?
It was known that she had not been treated well by her Father-in-Law Ranendra K. Das and Sister-in-Law Sankari Das since her marriage. Nandita’s husband Neil Kanta Das was in Dhaka at that time. Neil called Nandita’s brother around 7 AM on Aug 24 to tell him Nandita was not doing well. Nandita’s brother Uttam left for Shylet immediately after hearing the news but she was no more when he reached there. According to Uttam, there were clear marks on her body- she is believed suffocated to death. Ranendra Das and Sankari Das are believed to the perpetrators of this killing.
A case (#84) has been filed with Sylhet Kotoali Thana under the section of 302 on August 24, 2006 involving Ranendra Das and Sankari Das as the killers but no one is apprehended to date. It is understood from reliable sources that Ranendra Das and his family bribed the local police administration and got a false police report in their favor.
HRCBM representative called the local SP office (880-821-716304) on Sep 11, 2006 to inquire about the case. The SP mentioned that the police report contains no indication of physical torture. HRCBM representative tried to contact DIG of Police (880-821-841181) twice but DIG was not available to comment.
HRCBM believes that this is a planned murder of an innocent and newly wed girl at the prime of her life. We urge the law enforcement authority to take up the case, apprehend the killers and bring them to justice. The perpetrators must be dealt with iron hands immediately so that they can not dare to commit such heinous crimes in the future. We request the office of the Prime Minister to take appropriate step and help bringing the perpetrators to justice.
Respectfully,
Dhiman Deb Chowdhury
President, HRCBM
