Jamat activists carry attack on the Puja mandop (pavilion) in Shamnagar Upazila of Satkhira district: Six injured and one arrested (The Daily Prothom Alo, 03rd October 06)

SATKHIRA, October 3:- The activists of Jamat, partner of the alliance government carried an attack on the Khalsebunia Puja mandop of Shamnagar Upazila of Satkhira district on last Sunday. Six persons including three on duty Gram police (village police) of the Puja mandop and one Ansar were injured by the attack.

The attackers also looted shrimp worth about taka twelve thousand carrying an attack on the enclosure of the president of the Puja committee as the mob held one of the terrorists and handed him over to the local police. A panic is prevailing among the Hindu community over the incident. Police have been deployed on the spot.

Tushar Kanti Barman, General Secretary of Khalsebunia Kalibari Sarbojonin Durgamandop Puja committee says that about 17-18 miscreants led by Jamat supporters Nazim Gayen, Abdullah Al Mamun, Monirul Islam, Nazu par, Murshid Sarkar and MD.Shajahan hindered the worshipping at 10pm on last Sunday.  The attackers carried an attack after disconnecting the connection of the generator when the members of the Puja committee protested the attack.  On duty gram police (village police) Mosharaf Hossain, Samsur Rahman, Fazar Ali, Abul Hossain, an ansar member, president of the Puja committee Radha Kanta Mandal and Tushar were injured in the attack.

Later the visitors held an attacker named Nazim Gayen and handed him over to the police. The attackers also vandalized the hill house of the shrimp enclosure of Sarat Chandra Mandal, Vice- president of the Puja committee. The attackers also looted shrimp worth about taka twelve thousand when four employees of the enclosure resisted them. The attackers also threatened the teachers of Gabura Primary School Devbrato Mandal, Parimal Chandra Mandal and Pijus Kanti Biswas saying that they would break the teachers’ hands and legs. As a result the teachers are now suffering from insecurity.

Union Parishad chairman admitted the incident and said that the situation was now calm.

Jahi Hossain, OC of Shyam-nagar police station says that the youths beat up the on duty gram police and the members of Ansar of the Puja mandop. A case was lodged with the local police station about the incident. Nazim Gayen arrested in connection with the attack was sent to the court.

Terrorists carry attack on the Puja mandop (pavilion) in Raojan Upazila of Chittagong district, worshippers beaten up (The Daily Prothom Alo, 03rd October 06)

CHITTAGONG, October 3:- The terrorists carried an attack on the mandop of Durga Puja at Noapara of South Raojan of Chittagong district on last Sunday night. They also beat up some worshippers. Police arrested Jahur, Shah Alam, Shafi and Liton on suspicion in connection with the incident.

According to police, eye witnesses and local sources, some terrorists of a near by village wanted to play drum  on the Sarbojonin Durga festival mandop of Noapara Ekota Sangha mother temple  of Raojan  on Sunday evening  but the members of the Puja mandop didn’t respond to that. As a result hot words were exchanged about this between the two groups. About 15-16 terrorists equipped with sticks carried an attack on the mandop at about 10:30 pm. The terrorists vandalized the chairs and decoration of the mandop and they beat up some worshippers. Local terrorist Saiful and Akter led the attack. The terrorists came on motorbikes and on foot left the spot after carrying attack for half an hour. Later police arrested four persons on suspicion in connection with their involvement in the attack.

A leader of Puja Udjapon (celebration) committee of Chittagong North district says requesting anonymity that a panic is prevailing among fifteen hundred worshippers over the terrorist attack. The terrorists gave some worshippers a sound beating. Later, the local administration and police brought the situation under control.

Jasim Uddin, Upazila executive officer of Raojan Upazila says “I was visiting a near by mandop during the attack. I immediately went to the spot after hearing about the news and directed to take legal action against the persons involved.  Police have arrested about 3/4 persons”.  He also says that the attackers vandalized some chairs and beat up some worshippers. The members of the Puja committee have been advised to lodge a case about the incident. But the members of the Puja committee are afraid of lodging a case. So police will lodge a case on behalf of the Puja committee.

Ansar Uddin Khan, Police Super of Chittagong district says that the incident took place centering the matter of playing drum. Police is very much alert about the matter.

South Raojan Puja Udjapon Committie has demanded the arrest of the persons involved within 48 hours. They demanded the arrest of the attackers in a press conference held yesterday and they also said that they would go for greater programs if the attackers were not arrested within the stipulated time. A meeting of the council was held yesterday in protest of the attack. Sujit Das Mintu, Liton Mahajan, Anjan Dey spoke in the meeting. They said in the meeting that mob ousted the miscreants from the temple when they tried to create chaos inside the temple. Later, the miscreants brought 20-25 outsiders and then they beat up the devotees of the temple at random and also vandalized the furniture of the temple. About 20-25 persons including three Ansar members were injured during the attack.

SHERPUR (BOGRA), October 3:- People of different walks of life, political parties and journalist society have condemned and protested for not arresting the murderers of journalist Dipankar murder even after two years.


A program of human chain and protest meeting organized by Sherpur press club on Monday on the occasion of second death anniversary of Dipankar was held for an hour on Dhaka-Bogra highway. Later, a memorandum was handed over to Upazila executive officer demanding the arrest of the real murderers of journalist Dipankar.


The protest meeting was presided over by Nimai Ghosh and former principal of Sherpur Degree College journalist Rustom Ali; former police super Habibur Rahman, freedom fighter Abdus Sattar, general secretary of Sherpur Upazila committee of Hindu Buddhist Christian Oakya Parishad  Harishankar Saha, president of Sherpur town Puja Udjapon Parishad Lakkhon Saha, general secretary of Upazila Awama League Ahsan Habib Ambia, president of Sherpur reporters unity Saiful Bari Dablu, late journalist Dipankar’s son Onirudho Chakrabarti, journalist Sabuj Chowdhury, Shah Jamal Siraji, Shafiqul Islam Shafique, Ujjal Malakar, Sujit Basak, Abdul Manna, Belal Hossain, Akram Hossain, Naheed Al Malek, Ayub Ali, Shah Jamal Kamal, Sajid hitlar, Parimal Basak and Prabir Mohonto among others spoke in the meeting.

The journalists of Bogra district have expressed their grief for the failure of the administration in case of tracing the murderers of Dipankar Chakrabartu, former joint secretary of Bangladesh Federal Journalist Union (BFUJ) and old journalist of Bogra district.  The journalists have announced a program of a human chain today in protest of the justice of journalist Dipankar.  The program was announced yesterdays from a memorial meeting organized on the occasion of Dipankar’s second death anniversary. 

A memory meeting organized by Bogra Journalist Union (BUJ) and Reporters Forum was held on last Monday evening.  The memorial meeting was presided over by A.H.M. Aktarujjaman and executive member of BFUJ Mahmudul Alom Nayan, acting president of BFUJ Shahinur Rahman, Zia Shahin, Arif Rehman, Abu Bakkar Siddique, Ratan Rai and mohon Akhond spoke in the memorial meeting.


Attack and ransacking of Puja Mandap in Morelganj Upazila of Bagerhat district

BAGERHAT, October 4:- The local activists of Jubo Dal, a youth front of the ruling party, have carried an attack at Deuwatola bazaar of Morelganj Upazila of Bagerhat district on Monday night and the activists also vandalized the enclosure of the Puja mandop and spoiled the cultural program. Kumud Ranjan Mandal, president of Deuwatola bazaar Sarbojonin Puja Temple Committee in a press conference held at Bagerhat press club yesterday evening has made an allegation about the incident. He says in the press conference that some Jubo Dal activists led by president of union Jubo Dal Abul Bashar have carried an attack in presence of the police and they vandalized the stage of the Puja and also spoiled the cultural program. During this, some activists also looted some goods of some of the shops of the bazaar. According to an allegation, the incident has taken place for not inviting Abul Bashar in the Puja and also for not giving subscription of five thousand taka to ASI Jakir.

All accused in Chairman Aboni Baroy murder case released in Ujirpur Upazila of Barisal district (The Daily Prothom Alo, 06th October 06)

BARISAL, October 6:-  All accused of the murder case of  Aboni Baroy, former regional leader of Zia group of Sarbohara party, former chairman of Ujirpur Upazila  and also a local  influential Awami League organizer  have been released . First additional District and   Session Judge Court A.K.M. Nasir Uddin have given the verdict.

Aboni Baroy was shot dead by the miscreants near his own house in the village Kuralia of Ujirpur union in May 23, 2004. 

Urmila Baroy, wife of Aboni Baroy in a reaction after the verdict said she got no justice   she would appeal at the High Court in against of this verdict.

Agitated devotees set a colony on fire in Sylhet district (The Daily Amadersamay, 08th October 06)

SYLHET, October 8:- The agitated devotees have set a colony on fire on last Friday night at Dhaka south of Gopalganj Upazila of Sylhet district in protest of tearing the holy Quran. A standstill situation is prevailing there even though the local people were saved from a riot for the interference of the local respected persons and the administration. Police have arrested Babul Bhoumik, main culprit of the incident.
A huge contingent of police has been deployed at the most sensitive places including the birth place of Sri Chaitanna Dev to avert any kind of disorder. Police Super says that if needed more police will be deployed. State minister for religious affairs Mosharraf Hossain, Privatization commission’s Chairman Enam Ahmed Chowdhury and local MP Dr. Mokbul Hossain have directed the administration for a peaceful solution to the matter.

According to many sources, Babul Bhoumik of village Dattorael went to the house of Jarina Begum, wife of Alomgir a tenant of Babul Bhoumik for the rent of the house at 9pm. Jarin was reading the holy Quran during that time. Jarina alleged that she wanted to give Babul five hundred taka from the fixed amount of six hundred and fifty taka of the house rent but Babul got agitated and started scolding Jarina. On Jarina’s refusal to paythe full rent, Babul threw away the holy Quran and also physically harassed Jarina. When Jarina went to pick up the holy Quran, Babul snatched away the holy Quran and tore the holy Quran.

The son of Jarina informed the devotees of Dhaka south west bazar mosque of the incident. Then the devotees got very much agitated.  The devotees went to the near by house of Babul. Babul managed to escape sensing the presence of the devotees. The mob set fire Babul’s house and colony on fire not finding Babul at his house. About 30 houses including the house of Babul were gutted in the fire.

District Commissioner S.M. Faisal Alam, Police Super Mallik Fakhrul Islam, local Union Parishad chairman Mazir Uddin Chakladar and some respected local people sat in a meeting to tackle the situation. Nikhil Bhoumik, elder brother of Babul was presented at the meeting at 1am night. A team of police along with Nikhil with the direction of the District Commissioner launched drive at all possible places to arrest Babul Bhoumik. Babul was arrested   early in the morning.

KHULNA, October 4:-   A case has been lodged with the local police station for being harassed an adolescent girl at the the Puja mandop (pavilion) of Srifaltola B.M. primary School by the Jubo League (a youth front of Awami League, a political party) cadres. Though  the OC of the local police station received the case in face of the demand  and grief of the Hindu community and the Puja Udjapon( celebration) Committee but among the three main culprits, only Selim was made accused and other two Jubo League cadres Koron and Akhtarul  were dropped meyteriously from the list of the accused. A tense situation is prevailing between two groups of Awami League at Koira police station area after lodging a case. The school going daughter of Sanjay Mandol went to the Srifaltola Puja mandop to watch Puja at 8:30pm on Sunday. During this time, Selim, son of Khokon Mistiri of village Hogla and also a Jubo League leader led by Akhtarul, son of Kuddus Sanar and Rokon, son of Dhonai Morol physically harassed the adolescent girl. Later a clash erupted when Puja Udjapon Parishad and Rajjak group of Awami League came forward to rescue the girl. About fifty persons were injured and many shops were looted also during the clash. The OC of the local police station didn’t receive the case when father of the victim and the members of the Puja Udjapon Parishad went to the police station on the day occurrence to lodge a case about the harassment. A grief started mounting among the Hindu community for police refusal to receive the case. At one stage the local police called the victim’s father to the police station at the dead of night on Monday  in  face of the pressure of the higher authority of  police and also in  face of the demand of the Puja Udjapon Parishad and finally received the case. Nasir Uddin, OC of Koira police station says that a case was lodged with the police station accusing only Selim.  Police freed Rokon arrested in connection with the incident taking a handsome amount of money from him after the incident. OC Nasir Uddin says about this that Rokon was innocent for which he was released and then the OC put down the phone. A concealed grief is prevailing among the Hindu community   of the area over the matter. Two groups of local Awami League have taken positions on two sides. 

Daring robbery committed in Barisal district

BARISAL, October 9:- A daring robbery took place in the house of a Hindu minority businessman on Saturday dead of night at Hatkhola, a densely populated area of the town far only 500 yards from the Kotwali police station. On the other hand, snatchers snatched away worth about taka three million on Sunday on Kalushah road of the town.

The team of the robbers carried an attack on Saturday dead of night in the house of the businessman of Hatkhola named Ripon Ghosh and fled from the house after looting cash money worth about taka 15 lakh (million) and 40 bores of gold.  Ripon says that the robbers numbering 8-10 entered break open the grill of the house at 2 am night and   looted cash money and gold from the Almirah holding the inmates of the house hostage at gun point. Ripon Ghosh’s wife Amia Ghosh, son Sumon and daughter Moni received injuries during the attack of the robbers. Later the robbers managed to escape by a trawler kept on the river Kirtonkhola situated on the east side of the town.

On the other hand, three perpetrators fled after snatching  away worth about taka two and half lakh( million) and a DD of seventy one thousand taka at gun point from Jakir Hossain, a cashier of Barisal office of  Drug Manufacturing Company   Aventis. The incident took place on Kalushah road at about 11am on Sunday.

BARISAL, October 9:- A daring robbery took place at the dead of night on Saturday in the house of a Hindu minority businessman Ranajit Ghosh at Hatkhola Hari temple of Barisal town. The team of the robbers at the time of robbery broke open almirah and looted cash money worth about taka fifteen lakh (million) and forty bhoris( a measurement of gold)  of gold. The Kotwali police visited the spot on Sunday morning. Sumon, son of Ranajit Ghosg says that the robbers numbering 8-10 entered the house broke open the grill of the window of the second floor and held Sumon and his mother hostage at gun point.  At one stage, Sumon’s mother gave away taka fifteen lakh (million) to the robbers when the robbers started repression on Sumon.  Later the robbers broke the almirah of the house and looted the ornaments and then they managed to escape by a trawler through the Kirtonkhola River. The local people after hearing the screaming of Sumon and his father rushed to the house and took Sumon injured by the robbers to the hospital.  

A Jubo League leader beat up a Hindu minority woman for demanding her due in Gouronodi (The Daily Sangbad, 09th October 06)

GOURONODI, October 9:- A Jubo League (youth front of AL, political party) leader beat up a Hindu minority woman Putul Rani Dey in south Bilgram area of the Upazila on last Thursday as the woman went to the Jubo League leader to ask for the dues she got from the leader. 

It was learnt that Ms. Putul Rani Dey demanded her dues twenty two thousand taka from the Jubo League leader when she found Kuddus Hawladar , former UP member and Jubo League Vice- President in front of the shop of Gupi Das at 7:30 in the morning on that very day. Then Kuddus got very much agitated and gave Putul a sound beating. Injured Putul Rani Dey was admitted into Gouronodi Health Complex. A written complains was registered with Gouronodi police station about the incident.  Police visited the spot, but no perpetrators could be arrested.

A vested group beat up a Hindu minority of a tea stall in Nilphamari district, Jamat leader tries to create riot (The Daily Janokontho, 09th October 06)

NILFHAMARI, October 9:-   A vested group has beaten up a Hindu minority hotel businessman for a delay to give some cups of tea in a teal stall and now the vested group is trying to create a riot establishing the incident as communal one. Both sides have lodged a case for the incident took place in Baburhat area of Sonarai union of Nilfhamari town. A panic and tense situation is being created between two sides time and again. Though police have recovered some sticks from a mosque but there is an apprehension of taking place a clash between two groups at any time.
                 
According to local people, Abu Hossain of Musrot Kukha area Sonari union threatened a Hindu minority Jagodishchandra, owner of a tea stall of the bazaar on October 1 for the delay to give him a cup of tea.Abu Hossain along with his accomplices centering that incident carried an attack on the tea stall of Jagodishchandra and they also ransacked and looted the shop. During that time, more than hundred Hindus and Muslims got agitated on Abu Hossain and handed him over to the police.  Abu Hossain was freed on bail just after two days and lodged a case accusing 14 persons including Jagodishchandra. Later, Abu Hossain and his men stocked some sticks in a near by mosque to take revenge on the Muslims who handed him over to the police and so he informed the people of near by village. On information, police recovered some sticks from that mosque.  Jagodishchandra alleged, “Hindus and Muslims altogether protested the incident that day.” UP chairman Oshini kumar Ray said, “There is temple beside the mosque. Hindus and Muslims are living together for ages. But Jamat leader Abu Hossain of near by village wants to create a riot among the Hindus and the Muslims”.  Sohrab Ali, OC of the local police station admitted the recovery of the sticks from the mosque and said that police was observing the situation with importance so that no one could disrupt the communal harmony

Angry protestors torch several houses for alleged desecration of the holy Quran in Sylhet (The Daily Bangladesh Observer, 09th October 06)

SYLHET, October 9:-   Angry devotees torched the dwelling house and rented huts of Hindu owner of a colony hearing about alleged desecration of the Muslim book the holy Quran at Dattrail village in Gopalganj Upazila on Friday night, report

Police and witnesses said Babu Lal Malakar, the owner of the colony at the village, locked in an altercation with his hut renter Abdus Samad over house rent at about 9pm.

The story runs like this: at one stage, Malakar beat up Samad and his family members, and ransacked the house and tore pages of the holy Quran. 

“As the news spread, thousands of Muslim devotees attacked and set fire to his house and colony shanties,” says a report quoting witnesses to the night time brawl. 

Around 30 huts at the colony gutted in the fire, besides his house.

Malakar managed to flee and later surrendered to police.

Additional District Magistrate and Additional Police Super visited the spot on the night and calmed the commotion at about 1 a.m.

Deputy Commissioner SM Faysal Alam also visited the spot at 2 on the night.
 
Demanding Malakar’s punishment, the angry protestors gave the administration a 24 hour ultimatum to arrest him.

According to latest, information so far collected, Malakar surrendered to the police at about 4am. He, in his statement, denied having dishonored the holy Quran.

Minorities in panic. Government supporters carry an attack on the Puja mandop(Pavilion) in Habiganj district, idols vandalized (The Daily Janokontho, 12th October 06)

HABIGANJ, October 12:-     Government supported an influential circle carried an attack on the Pukurpar Puja mandop (pavilion) of Chowdhury bazaar of the town and vandalized the idol of Laxmi (name of a Hindu Goddess) centering the dispute of a land in spite of pending a case about that land at the court.  The perpetrators also also ransacked other things of the Puja mandop. A panic and anxiety are prevailing among the Hindu community over the incident. The Hindus of the area demonstrated on Thursday night protesting the attack. A case was lodged with the local police station in this connection.

According to police and eye witnesses, businessman Ahmed Masuk and Kamal Uddin, sons of late Abdul Sobhan , a resident of Pukurpar of Nayeb along with Shajahaqn Miah and 8-10 other miscreants started vandalizing the fence of the Puja mandop on Thursday at 7:15am. The perpetrators left the spot when the members of the Pija mandop went to the police station to inform the police. The perpretators united again after the afternoon and vandalized everything of the Puja mandop including the idol of Laxmi.

The minority leaders demanded  in a protest meeting held on Thursday night that the  attackers lodged a case vat the court with a view to occupy the land of the temple making forged document and carried this attack on the Puja mandop.

Money extorted from a Hindu minority businessman in Gaibandha district: Threatened to kill (The Daily Sangbad, 09th October 06)

GAIBANDHA, October 9:-   The terrorists threatened to kill a Hindu minority businessman of village Giridharipur of Polashbari Upazila of Gaibandha district as the terrorists didn’t get the extortion they demanded from the businessman.  As a result, the family of that businessman is now suffering from insecurity. Ananda kumar, a Hindu minority and head of that family complained about the matter to the journalists on last Sunday.

According to police and villagers, Farhad, a terrorist bought flour of four thousand and two hundred taka, sugar and soyabeen oil on dues on September 17 from the shop of grocery businessman Anandaa Kumar.  Farhad hailed from Holdibari village of Pirganj Upazila of near by Rangpur district.  Farhad is an accused of the murder case of Hassan who died in an internal feud of Polashbari Ideal College and Farhad is also a Upazila Chatra Shibir( a student organization of Jamat, a political party) leader of former Polashbari. Farhad got very much agitated on Ananda kumar when he told farhad to give back the dues he got from Farhad. Later Farhad along with his accomplices Touhidul Islam, former UP member of Polashbari town and Jalal, a Shibir leader took Ananda Kumar forcibly to their village holdibari. The terrorists kept Ananda Kumar confined there and demanded fifty thousand taka as extortion. On Ananda’s refusal to give extortion, the terrorists gave Ananda a sound beating and also threatened to kill him. The terrorists sent Ananda back to his home threatening him not to lodge any case. Ananda Kumar lodged a case as complainant in this connection with Polashbari police station.  Ananda kumar said the terrorists were feed on bail and now they started intimidating him to withdraw the case and even the terrorists are threatening him to kill.  As a result, Ananda kumar along with his family is now suffering from insecurity. Sakir Uddin, Oc of Polashbari police station said, “The complainant didn’t inform the police anything of the threat. Investigation of the case is going on. Nothing can be said before getting the report of the investigation”.  Jala sadi, “allegation of terrorism and extortion against them was false”. It has been circulated that Atul Chandra Saha, father of Ananda Kumar with whole family left the country for India about six months ago being oppressed by the terrorists and the extortionists .
 
Allegation of ransacking the house of a Hindu minority family in Gazipur district

GAZIPUR, October 9:-   According to an allegation, a group of terrorists ransacked and vandalized the house of Kanai Mallik, a Hindu minority on last October 4 in North Bilashpur area of Gazipur district centering the dispute of some portions of land.  Police didn’t take any case in this connection when Kanai Mallik went to Jaidevpur police station to lodge a case.

It was learnt that Kanai Mallik and his family have been living in Bilashpur hereditarily. A dispute started between Kanai and nurul Islam bhuyan after Nurul Isalm purchased some portions of land from Rabindra Mallik, a relative of Kanai Mallik.  Nurul Isalam has been trying to evict Kanai Mallik with a lame excuse that Kanai Mallik’s portion of land was included with the portion of land Nurul Islam purchased from Rabimdra Mallik.  As a part of this, the hired goons of Nurul Islam ransacked the house of Kanai Mallik on October 4 Morning.  Kanai Mallik’s two relatives Rabindra Mallik and Horonbala got victims of the beating when they went to resist the hired goons of Nurul Islam.
Joydevpur police station didn’t take any case in this connection even after lodging a complain. 

A Hindu minority housewife raped in Savar of Dhaka district The rapist arrested

SAVAR (DHAKA), October 9:- A Hindu minority housewife was raped at Rajashan of Savar municipality area. Mob caught the rapist and handed him over to the police. A case was lodged in this connection with Savar police station.

It was learnt that Dulal Bhoumik of village Hazarinagar of Kuliarchar police station of Kishorganj district stayed with his wife in the house of Saiful Khan of Rajashan of Savar municipality area as renter. Aminul Islam alias Babul, son of near by Abdul Malek gave bad proposal to Dulal’s wife off and on.  Dulal Bhoumik went to his work place at Active Composite Factory on Saturday 8pm night. Aminul Islam making the best use of that opportunity broke the door of Dulal’s house and entered into the house at the dead of night. Tenant of near by room Mizanur Rahman came forward to rescue Dulal’s wife after hearing her screaming but he left the house as Aminul intimidated him by weapon.  Local people caught Aminul when he Aminul tried to flee from the spot and later they handed Aminul over to the police. Saroda Bhoumik filed a case (case no.18) as complainant on last Sunday under women and children repression and prevention act with Savar police station in this connection. SI Nizam of Savar police station said the victim was sent for the medical test.

GAIBANDHA, October 9:-   A local influential Hindu minority businessman Shaymol Datta along with his accomplices laid a siege to the Saghata temple of Gaibandha district on last Friday for about 12 hours.  As a result the followers of the Hindu religion started their Laxmi Puja at 12 midnight instead of the morning. More than hundred followers of the Hindu religion demonstrated in protest of the siege program. Ranajit Chandra and Subash Chandra, president and general secretary respectively of the Puja Udjapon Committee said that the incident took place as a result of Shaymol’s family dispute with the priest of the temple Manik.

BAGERHAT, October 12:-    Two pairs of valuable idols of Krishno were stolen from South Tafalbari Poschimpara Govindo temple of Shoronkhola upazila of Bagerhat district. Unknown thieves broke the lock of the temple on Saturday night and then stole the idols.  According to the authority of the temple, the thieves stole the plate, glass, bell made of brass including the idols of Krishno which were also made of brass.  Krishnokanto Rayen, president of the temple committee said Shoronkhola police station was primarily informed of the incident.

NARSINGHDI, October 12:-   Someone has stolen the heads of five idols from Chintani’s house of village Virinda of Polash Upazila of narsinghdi district.  The Hindu community of the area is very much concerned over the incident and a panic is prevailing among them over the stealing incident. It was learnt that about 40-50 families of the Hindu community of the area had been unitedly worshipping Laxmi Puja on that Puja mandop since long.  Someone on Sunday at the dead of night after the Puja took away the five heads of the idols Laxmi, Narayan, Kartik, Gorur Pakhi and Gonesh and the thieves also set fire to the cloth of Laxmi idol.  When contacted, the OC of Polash police station said that he heard the.  No one lodged any complain in this connection.  But the incident might take place as a result of their internal feud. On the other hand, Bhanga UP chairman visited the Puja mandop and condemned the incident. 

Terrorists carry an attack on the temple and vandalize the idols in Rampal Upazila of Bagerhat district: 10 persons injured (The Daily Sangbadpatro, 06th October 06)

BAGERHAT, October 6:-    A group of terrorists carried an attack on Vekotmari Belai Sarbojonin Temple of Rampal Upazila of Bagerhat district on Wednesday night and also vandalized three idols. The terrorists also injured 10 persons when they went to resist the terrorists from vandalizing the idols.
 
According to police and the temple committee, about 30-35 terrorists including Babu, Pele, Raju, Shahin, Abir and Manik led by Lablu, a most wanted terrorist of the area of Koyla Babu of Rampal Upazila   carried the attack on the temple and they also vandalized the idols (Murthi) of Kartik, Gonesh and Durga kept in the temple. During the attack ten persons including Ashok Kumar (24), Pranab Rai (25), Nirmal (26), Biprodas (35) and Shusanto (37) were injured when they went to resist the terrorists. Devid Mandal lodged a case as a complainant with Rampal police station in this connection accusing 9 persons.  Police didn’t arrest the terrorists as the terrorists were the supporters of the government party.     

Perpetrators carry an attack on the temple and loot goods including Murti (idol) in Ramu Upazila of Cox’s bazaar district (The Daily Sangbad, 13th October 06)

RAMU, October 13:-   A group of perpetrators in Ramu Upazila of Cox’s bazaar district carried an attack on a temple and looted many goods including the idols of Krishno and Ghot.

It was learnt that a group of unknown perpetrators carried the attack on the North Fotekhrtpul Banikpara Sarbojonin Hari temple at night on October 11.  At that time the perpetrators entered into the temple after breaking the lock of the temple and they looted the idols of Krishno and Ghot and the perpetrators also looted pictures of various religious idols, the utensils made of brass and donation box. Besides this, the perpetrators also tried to carry an attack on old teaching centre and also on the temple of Gita. But the perpetrators failed to carry the attack for the people’s frequent visit to the temple. The worshippers noticed the incident when they went to worship at the temple in the morning on Thursday. A panic started prevailing among the Hindus of the area after the spreading of the incident. The local people held a protest meeting on the premises of the temple at 10am on that very day. The speakers demanded to the administration for the arrest of the perpetrators after an investigation of the heinous incident and to take legal actions against the perpetrators.

It is mentionable that the terrorists set fire to five temples and twenty houses of the Hindus of Banikpara in 1992.

Ornaments stolen from a Minority jewelry shop in Shoronkhola Upazila of Bagerhat district (The Daily Sangbad, 13th October

SHORONKHOLA (BAGERHAT), October 13:-   An adventurous stealing took place in Sri Guru Jewelers of a busy jewelry area of Rayenda bazaar of Shoronkhola Upazila of Bagerhat district in the afternoon on Tuesday. The thieves took away about forty bhoris (a measurement of gold) of gold during the stealing.

Biswajit Karmakar, owner of the jewelry shop went to his house situated behind his shop to take his lunch at 2:30pm. The back door of the shop remained open as the distance between his house and the shop was only ten yards. Some one taking that opportunity entered into the shop and took away forty bhoris of gold breaking the locks of two showcases within very short time.

PIROJPUR, October 15:-   Ruhul Amin Dulal, General Secretary of Mothbaria police station of Pirojpur district have bulldozed and grabbed the land of Sri Sri Madanmohan (Raimahan) orphanage, a temple and 16 cemeteries by his terrorists group and he has also constructed a house unauthorizedly on these lands.  Santosh kumar, general secretary of the orphanage in a press conference organized at Crime Reporters’ Association made the allegation.

Santosh Kumar said in the Press conference Sri Sri Madanmohan (Roymahan) orphanage is situated in Mothbaria Upazila of Pirojpur district. Sri Motimonitara Baisnabi established the temple on 39 decimal of land 100 years ago.  The land of the orphanage was allotted for the use of the temple, two rooms were allotted as accommodation of Bayesnob and some portions of land were allotted for the burial of Bayesnob.  Local M.P Dr. Rustom Ali allocated two metric tons of rice for the orphanage. The orphanage was renovated with this fund.

Ruhul Amin grabbed some portions of land in June 27, 2005 by making forged document and constructed a house on that portion of land.  During that time, Ruhul Amin also cut down some trees of the orphanage and looted some goods worth about taka two lakh (million).

Santosh Kumar said that police refused to help them in this connection when they went to the police station to seek police assistance. Later, they appealed to the police Superintendent and the Police Super directed the intelligence agency to look into the matter but no action was taken so far. Santosh kumar has appealed to the concerned authority to free his land by evicting the land grabbers.

GOURONOD(BARISAL) , October 4:-   About two persons lost lives and ten persons injured by shooting in major three attacks of the terrorists in last four months in minority populated area of Gouronodi Upazila of Barisal district. The minority community is very much concerned over the mysterious role of the police though police sometimes arrested some men and the minority community is also very much panicked for not unearthing the mystery of these attacks.  The minority group has become very much anxious over these kinds of incidents at the last moment of the government.

It was learnt that two Hindu minorities Amulla Das(35) and Sarosbati Das(45) lost their lives in the attack of armed  terrorists in the village Sakokathi known as a village affected by terrorism on last June 7. Five more persons were injured during the attack. The key mystery could not be unearthed though police arrested two persons inthis connection.  Recommendation of an influential quarter to free the arrested persons was to be noticed. Manik Pal, a Hindu minority businessman of the Sarbohara populated village Kandapasha of Gouronodi Upazila has taken shelter somewhere leaving his own house as the armed masked terrorists numbering 5-20 threatened Manik Pal at the dead of night in the house of Manik Pal and Gourongo Pal on September 18 last. Police played the role of a silent audience in this incident. At last about five persons of Batojor including teachers and businessmen were seriously injured by the shooting of the terrorists on September 22 last in Sakharipara area which is a minority populated area and affected by terrorism. Among the injured, one was admitted into Dhaka and another one was admitted into Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital of Barisal district.  An Upazila Jubo Dal (a student front of the government) leader was found involved with the inhuman attacks of the terrorists. Police arrested four persons in connection of their involvement with the incident. It was learnt that the arrested persons were the cadres of the group of that Jubo Dal leader. Some leaders of a faction of Gouronodi Upazila BNP recommended strongly releasing Miraz Sardar (30) whom police arrested on September 23 in connection with the incident of shooting at Sakharipara. Police arrested three more persons in this connection.  The arrested persons were –Afjal Howlader, miraj Sardar, Shahid Bepari. Though police arrested Miraj hawlader in connection with terrorism but police filed a robbery case against Miraj. According to a source, about 80 minority families live in Batajor area. Most of them are businessman and job holders and the armed terrorists open fire to abduct gold businessman Dipak Sakhari(50) , one of a big businessman of Batajor. The terrorists not only opened fire on that day but also they caused many sensitive incidents which the people could not express due to public shame. The terrorists looted cash money including gold ornaments. A mixed reaction has been created among the locals for Batajor police silence role during the attack of the terrorists. Later, police of the Gouronodi police station and the members of RAB-8 went to the spot and calmed the people. Teacher of the Batajor Primary School Sunil Master (50), brother of the owner of Puja Jewelry shop Samir Sakhari (40), Ratan Sakhari (45), Ripon Sakhari (30) and Suman Sakhari (26) were seriously injured by the terrorists’ firing. The conscious quarter of the area has expressed their concern over the terrorists attack for police failure to unearth the clue of all the attacks in the difference of four months and especially for the continuous attack in minority populated area at the last moment of the present government.

TANGAIL, October 16:-   Joyensahi Adivasi( Tribal people) Unnayan (Development) Parishad(Council) brought out a demonstration procession and held a  protest meeting on Sunday at Modhupur Gor area in protest of the arrest of three Adivasis in a BRAC(Bangladesh Rural Advancement Corporation) activist murder. The meeting was preside by Ajay and Adivasi leader benedic Mangsung,  acting president of Tribal Welfare Association of Modhupur branch Anneshan Chiran, Pranayan Mree, Biddyut Mansan, Abdus Samad, Somnath, Lahiri, Shanti Atiara and Sanju Mankin spoke in the meeting. A demonstration procession of Adivasi people paraded through many villages of Gor area after the meeting. Police recovered a dead body of a BRAC activist Fazlul Haque from Gor area on September 21 last. Later police arrested three Adivasi people Kek Rema, Floren Chambugong and Tomas Sampal on October 11 last on suspicion of their involvement in the murder.

PIROJPUR, October 16:-     A lawyer in Sikarpur area of Pirojpur district is attempting to evict a family of a freedom fighter living on the vested property by forged document. Police due to an unknown reason could not give the charge sheet after a case of forged document was lodged against that lawyer. The wife of the dead freedom fighter has made the allegation to the Bar Council and District Lawyers’ Association.  People of all walks of life including the freedom fighters and lawyers have become very much agitated. The forged document was made using the name of Nittyaranjan Mandal, a Hindu minority who has come from Calcutta. Nittyaranjan Mandal in a press conference organized at Pirojpur press club on Saturday morning said on behalf of the family of the freedom fighter that he didn’t know any man named Sujit Mandal and even no land was sold to Sujit. In the press conference commander of freedom fighter council Goutom Choudhury, former president of District lawyers’ Association Chandicharan Pal, the dead freedom fighter Arbinda Majumdar’s wife Jharna Majumdar were also present.

BOGRA, October 16:- Some snatchers snatched away taka worth about 10 lakh (million) after shooting a businessman at broad day light on Sunday at Matidali Shahapara area of Bogra district. The injured businessman was admitted into Mohammad Ali Hospital. Rabindra Nath Saha, a Hindu minority spice businessman of Rajabazar of the town started his journey to his shop “Shuvon Store” from his house by motorcycle at 9:30 morning.  About 3-4 perpetrators opened fire aiming at his motorcycle within one hundred meters of the house. The perpetrators snatched away the bag of the money of Rabindra Nath Saha after he fell down on the ground receiving bullet injury. The locals and the pedestrians didn’t come forward that time to rescue Rabindra Nath for fear of life. Injured Rabindra Nath said that he kept the sale proceeds in the house as the bank’s closing on Friday and Saturday. He was supposed to go to his shop after depositing the money at the bank on Sunday. A panic is prevailing among the locals for the incident of day-light firing and snatching. Though police visited the spot but police could not arrest the snatchers. The incidents of snatching rise alarmingly during this time. Police are simply failed to resist the incidents of snatching.

BANDARBAN, October 16:- A tribal farmer was abducted by some armed terrorists from village Sambu Tanchagya Para in Ruma Upazila at late night on October 10.

About Taka 1, 20,000 demanded for the release of the farmer Kaladikhya Tanchangya (45) through a letter from the terror group.   Local villagers and police sources said here that the abduction took place at remote tribal village Sambu Tanchangya Para on October 10 at late night for non-payment of illegal toll. The terror group entered the village and abducted them. The tribal leaders of remote Ruma, Rwangchhari and Thanchi Upazila told the local newsmen that the terrorists sent letters to each of the tribal families recently for pay toll amounting 1,000 taka

Mother, daughter violated in Barisal district (The Daily Independent, 17th October 06)

BARISAL, October 17:- A woman of the Hindu community and her daughter were violated by some hoodlums in their shanty house at Alamdi village in Ujirpur Upazila of Barisal district recently.

The victims were admitted to local health complex in critical conditions.

Police and victims’ family sources said a widow, 40 and her daughter, 13, a student of class six of a local school.

After visiting the Durga Puja mandops, they returned to their home at about 11pm and went to sleep in their shanty.

About one hour after Russell Howladar, son of Hossain Howladar of West Satia, and Esahuq Bali, son of Asmat Bali of Alamdi entered the house by removing the door of the shanty, made the mother and the daughter hostage under arms and started raping the mother in front of the daughter.

When the daughter tried to run away, the other unidentified associates of Russell and Esahuq waiting outside the house, caught her and taking her near a bush raped her.

The local people rescued the daughter from the bush in an unconscious condition in the early morning and both of the victims were rushed to local rural physician at first and then to the Upazila health complex.

Till filing of this report the condition of the minor girl was critical.

The brother in- law of the widow lodged a case in this regard but none was so far arrested.

The incident triggered panic among the members of the minority community.

Comrade Rashed Khan Menon, president of the Workers Party rushed to the hospital and visited the victims and gave assistance for their treatment.

Menon condemned the incident and demanded immediate arrest of the rapists.

The miscreants are influential persons are enjoying the blessings of the powerful quarters of the ruling party, it is learnt.

Human Rights Group urges to stop attack on the Ahmadyia and the minorities

Black flag would be hoisted at all the temples of old Dhaka during Kali Puja if 400 years old Madanmohon temple of Sutrapur of the capital is not freed from the grabber terrorists   within next 24 hours. Hindu Buddhist Christian Oikya Parishad announced the program of hoisting black flag from a human chain program organized to protest the grabbing of the temple.

The leaders and activists of Hindu Buddhist Christian Oikya Parishad held demonstration and protest rally in front of the office District Commissioner of Dhaka protesting the temple grabbing. The leaders said in the meeting that Durga Puja and Kali Puja were being held in 400 years old temple. The terrorists led by Asad all of a sudden occupied the temple on last Tuesday evening. The terrorists were now threatening the minority families staying near the temple to confirm their position on the land of the temple.

The leaders  of the Parishad said that if the temple was not freed from this group of terrorists within 24 hours then black flag would be hoisted at all the temples of old Dhaka on Saturday during Kali Puja. The leaders also demanded to remove the terrorists from the temple and also to restore peaceful environment of Puja.

The meeting was presided over by Sri Haripad Datta and the leaders of Hindu Buddhist Christian oikya Parishad Advecate Sushanta Basu, Taposh Pal, Nirmal Chatterji, Shaymol Rai, Sukhendu Baidya, Manaranjan Majumdar and Priyaranjan Das spoke in the meeting.

Priyanath Das, member of a family staying on the land of the temple said that three members of RAB-10 visited the grabbed temple yesterday. But the members supported the terrorists instead of evicting them. He put a question that if the role of the on duty members in case of giving security was like that then where they would seek security, that’s  the matter to think.

The on duty members of RAB-10 said yesterday in this connection that there was nothing to misunderstand. RAB members came to know from Jayanta Sen, leader of Mahanagar Puja Committee that an untoward incident might take place at the temple. RAB members tried to know the real fact visiting the temple so that no untoward incident could take place.

DHAMRAI, October 20:-     “There would be no investigation of the case if you don’t pay six thousand taka right now. The government now doesn’t bear the expense of this kind of case like before. So if you don’t give money in right time and by the time if the defendant party communicates with him then the case would be in no use,” said OC Humayun Khalid of Dhamrai police station to the complainant of the attempt to murder case.

It was learnt that Md. Ratul (22), employer of Basudev, a hindu minority and the owner of a saloon attempted to murder Basudev by a razor but Ratul was caught by the mob and mob gave him a sound beating. Seriously injured Basudev was at first admitted into Dhamrai Health Complex and later to Dhaka Medical Hospital (DMCH).
Parimal Sheel, brother of Basudev made this allegation when OC Humayun said that if they did’t give more money, their case would not be investigated after Pariaml went to Dhamrai police station and lodged a case in this connection.

DINAJPUR, October 20:-    A dacoity (robbery) took place in an area of Chirirbandar Upazila of Dinajpur district. The dacoits beat up three persons including the householder and looted goods worth about taka two lakh (million). A case was lodged in this connection.

It was known from the description of the case that a group of terrorists numbering 20-25 leapt over the wall of the house of Radha Govindo of village Baniapara of Abdulpur union of Chirirbandar Upazila and entered the house breaking the door. During that time the householder awakened at the sound of breaking of the door. Some members of the dacoit group held the householder hostage and looted goods worth about two million taka including cash 1 lakh (million) and 25 thousand taka, 4 carets ( a measurement of gold) of gold, TV and cassettes.

NAOGA, October 13:-   Jatiya Adaivasi Parishad( National Tribal people Council) in organization of Dhamerhat branch of Naoga submitted  a memorandum on Wednesday to UNO and they also held demonstration and protest rally protesting the attack of the terrorists’ on Anju Pahan and Satish Pahan and also the attack on the  house of Anju Pahan , a resident of Adivasi Palli of village Khanpara of Dhamerhat  Upazila of Naoga district.

A procession of more than five hundred Adivasis paraded through main streets of the Upazila at 1pm. Later, the Adivasi people submitted a three point memorandam to Dhamerhat Upazila executive officer demanding the arrest of the terrorists, answer for Dhamerhat OC’s misbehavior and also demanding the security of the Adivasi Palli. 

Later a protest meeting was held at 3pm at Amitara turn of the Upazila. The meeting was presided over by Devlal Tudur and president of Naoga District Adivasi Parishad Amin kuzur, Nayan Pahan, B.S.D.( a political party) Naoga District Coordinator Jaynal Abedin Mukul, Bharat Pahan and Bajendra Rabi Das were spoke in the meeting.

The dead body of a priest recovered in Bogra district (The Daily Sangbad, 10th October 06)

BOGRA, October 10:- A dead body of a Priest named Lal Pande(60) was recovered on last Wednesday afternoon from Karotoa river near of Maltinagar SP bridge of Bogra town. The old man hailed from North Chelopara of the town. He was a Hindu priest. He went missing after coming out from the house on Friday morning to go to others house to conduct Laksmi Puja.

Bijay Pande, his elder son said that they searched his father- Pande in all probable places after he went missing. The son thought that his father might have drowned in the river for any reason.

One arrested in connection with the attack on the family of a minority family in Sonaimuri Upazila of Noakhali district (The Daily Ajker Kagoj, 07th October 06)

BEGUMGANJ, October 7:-   Sonaimuri police arrested Nurnobi(35) in connection with an attack on the house of a minority family of village Mahutola of Joyag union of Sonaimuri Upazila  Noakhali district. On the other hand, a guard of watchmen was arranged by Union Parishad authority for the security of the affected family of Sawpan Sutrodhar.

Land eater Nurnobi and his nephew Bahar of village Mahutola injured six persons carrying an attack on Shopon Sutrodhar, his father and the family of Shopon of near by village.  Toruni Sutrodhar, father of Shopon lodged a case as a complainant with Sonaimuri police station in this connection.

Terrorists carry an attack on the Puja mandop (pavilion) in Devidar Upazila of Comilla district. Twenty injured. (The Daily Janokontho, 04th October 06)

COMILLA, October 4:- Incidents of terrorists’ attack on the Puja mandop, looting and ransacking occurred in Devidar Upazila of Comilla district. About twenty persons including members of Ansar were injured in the attack. Police arrested two persons named Shahid and Jamai Samsu in connection with the incident. Eyewitnesses said that a group of terrorists numbering 20-25 led by terrorist Mannan and Jakir of near by Ashra village entered the Kalibari Puja mandop of Barkamota Purbopara of the Upazila at 10pm during the night and they teased the girls. At that time the on duty Ansar members ousted them from the Puja mandop. Later, the terrorists united again and then carried an attack on the Puja mandop and vandalized Durga murti (idol).

Two daring dacoities (robbery) committed in Bagerhat district (The Daily Observer, 19th October 06)

BAGERHAT, October 19:- Two daring dacoities were committed in the village Telikhali within Baintala Union Parishad under Rampal Upazila in the district on the night of October 2.

It is learnt from the police and the local people that at the night at about 1-30 am a gang pf armed dacoits, 8/10 in number, raided the house of one Kalipada Devnath (Baraipara) of the village, entered it by breaking open its door and looted cash Tk. 1 thousan, gold ornaments weighing of half a Tola and a torch light at arms point.

At about 2 pm the dacoits raided the adjacent house belonging to one Sanhoy Devnath and entered it in the similar way. Then they made the inmates of the house hostage at arms point and looted cash Tk. 26 thousand and gold ornaments weighing three tolas and fled away.

In this connection a case was registered with Rampal police station. Police visited the place of the occurrence.

Arson in the house of a Hindu minority in Rangpur district (The Daily Prothom Alo, 19th October 06)

RANGPUR, October 19:- The members of a family set fire to a house of another minority family on last Tuesday night in Rangpur district centering the previous enmity of land. Police arrested three persons in this connection.

According to police and eyewitnesses sources, Bulbul Ahmed(28), Bashir Ahmed(26) and Nadir Ahmed(24) three sons of Lal Miah(50) of village Kellabanda Kuthipara within Uttom Union of the Upazila set fire one house of Krishnachandr Vhadra on last Tuesday at 9 pm. Three brothers were arrested on last Wednesday after Krishnachandra Vhdra registered a case in this connection with Kotwali police station on that very night.

It was learnt from the allegation that two houses were completely gutted when the perpetrators set fire to the houses by Kerosene oil.
